Memorial Day Weekend

Finally...a chance to relax and catch up on some much needed rest! Julio finished with his finals and papers on Thurs. night and then we had a three day weekend to celebrate the end of the semester. Julio celebrated by hibernating (sleeping), while Sam and I ran errands and also caught up on sleep.

On Sunday Sam and I both got much needed haircuts and enjoyed the beautiful weather by taking a long walk.

On Mon. (unfortunately the coldest day of the weekend) we took the train downtown and went to Millennium Park. We let Sam run around and check out the giant bean and the open air amphitheater. We had fun despite the chilly weather. That night we had a little bbq and enjoyed time with our friends Mary Lou and Leah Sander.

Tonight we're off to the cubs game to celebrate Julio's b-day (a little early).

May happenings

May has been another busy month for the Isaza family. Julio's one week away from being done with the semester and is looking forward to a little break from studying! He did manage to get away for a few hours one morning to take Sam to the zoo with some friends. While Julio has been busy studying in the library, Sam and I have been finding ways to enjoy some free time, which has included a trip to the children's museum and hanging out at home making chocolate chip cookies.

Sam helped me host a baby shower for our friend, Jen, who will be having a little boy in June.

One Saturday morning we got a free pass to the children's museum, so Sam and I headed downtown to Navy Pier. We got there early and enjoyed plenty of time to play before it got too busy with other kids. Sam got into the spirit of fishing opener by pretend fishing.

Here he is playing bus driver!

For mother's day Julio and Sam surprised me with a wonderful gift - the afternoon off and a manicure/pedicure. I enjoyed a few hours to myself at the spa and then walking around the mall - it was a gorgeous day and the tulips were stunning. After my afternoon alone, Julio met me for dinner at Cheesecake factory!

Julio and Sam went with our friends Jason and Jocelyn to the Lincoln Park zoo one morning. Jocelyn and Sam know each other from the nursery at church, still it took them a bit to warm up to each other. They both enjoyed seeing the many animals and having the time with their dads.

This Saturday I decided it would be a good day to make some cookies. So, Sam had his first experience of helping me make chocolate chip cookies. He got his own spoon and enjoyed the opportunity to stand on the chair and be where the action was.

I tried to tell him flour doesn't taste good.

Baby Kellyn

A big congratulations to our friends Liz and Kavan on the birth of their daughter, Kellyn! She's beautiful! Last night Julio and Sam got to come with me to meet her. Seems like Sam was smitten'. When he's seen babies in the past he hasn't been too interested, but he stood by her little rocker, looking at her and even rocking her gently. Horray for another playmate!

Birthdays

Samuel has been a very social guy this past week. He's attended two birthday parties and had so much fun. It is kind of funny that both the parties were for little girls, so there were fairies and ballerinas involved, but he didn't seem to know the difference. He got to be a pirate at one of the parties and at the other one he got a little dance lesson. It's so fun to watch him play and interact with other kids. You can tell he's still trying to figure it all out.

Trying to figure out the sword.

If only you could have seen him at the end of the party after he had his fill of the sand table...I'm still finding sand in random places.

Enjoying a hot dog!

A ballerina themed b-day party, not sure why the boys are standing and the girls are sitting.

He seems to have enjoyed himself - he even got a wand

Sam was the youngest kid at the party...I think he held his own.
