Taste of Colombia

This past weekend Julio and I had the pleasure of welcoming two of our friends from Colombia to Chicago. They were here for the triennial women's conference, which was held downtown Chicago. On Sunday we picked them up and enjoyed a beautiful drive through the city. It was one of those perfect summer days! The sun was shining, the beaches were packed, and the city looked beautiful. Our destination was "Sabor a Cafe", our favorite Colombian restaurant. We were all thrilled to order typical Colombian food. Mary Lou and I shared the "bandeja paisa" which is a favorite in Medellin. It consists of beans, rice, chicharron (pork), grilled steak, fried egg, sweet plantain, arepa, avocado and sausage (extremely healthy!) We also enjoyed our favorite Colombian soft drink, "Colombiana". It was a great time to talk and catch up on what's been happening in our lives and in the different ministries in Colombia. Julio and I both miss Colombia, our friends, our church, and the ministries we were involved in, so it's always great to reconnect with people who share our love for the country. Here are some pictures from our time together.

All satisfied after a great meal!
